		<description>i share your sense of distraction--would emphasize that it can be a good thing for writing. in fact, i began to work on birkerts this summer, wanting to use his views of &#039;distraction&#039; to write an essay about digital texts and the good senses of distraction they can offer, in contrast to how he views it. needless to say, i got distracted.
but one way to do this one: focus in on the quotation about knowledge not being simple or quick (does he also imply non-linear?) access. elaborate, then use that against him, to get into PG: pick a particular section where access is the issue, and  help your reader understand the knowledge you get from her text, how it is different than a book, or perhaps similar to a book reading. quoting from Stitch Bitch or Hayles on this particular issue of knowledge/cognition and the different kind of &#039;access&#039; would help too.</description>

		<description>a great response to the reading--i particularly like the point you demonstrate that Patchwork Girl seems to be about composting; nice connection with Natalie Goldberg, the person I steal the metaphor of &#039;composting&#039; from. there is a point I recall from Girl, Interrupted: that the kind of illness or &#039;crazyness&#039; she was confronting and exploring is not the absence of meaning but too much meaning--I think she writes it&#039;s &#039;you, amplified.&#039; That seems to me to be evident in Patchwork Girl: it is story, amplified. 

i wrote in my glog this week about how much Birkerts seems afraid of the process of writing/reading and also the public nature of reading/writing in a wired world. do you think Birkerts would find Patchwork Girl too public, not private enough?</description>
